First Eco-hotel opens in Spain

The Hotel Venus Albir near the resort of Benidorm on the Costa Blanca has become the first in Spain to be certified as an eco-hotel and joins a Europe-wide group of ‘BioHotels’ that reflect the growing demand for ecological and sustainable criteria by holiday makers.

Built in the village of Alfaz de Pi in Alicante the hotel incorporates many features that respect the local environment and sustainable development. The hotel has been built using locally sourced materials such as thermal clay blocks, cork insulation and organic paints. Ecological features include a rain harvesting system for irrigation in the gardens, the use of solar facilities and a fully certified organic kitchen. The philosophy of the hotel is to provide an experience that brings the visitor closer to nature and to improve their general well being during their stay. The location close to the quiet local beach and the ‘Sierra Helada’ nature park provides the perfect outdoor setting while in the hotel, apart from the fully certified organic restaurant, offers therapies, classes and courses for mind, body and spirit.
