Listening Hands

Cranio sacral therapy is evolving rapidly, its popularity may be due to the benefits people of all ages gain from the soft manual contact given by the therapist. Cranio-sacral practitioners believe that our bodies reflect our life experiences from conception to present, and that certain stressful incidents may be retained on a cellular, tissue or structural level. Often these events stay in our sub consciousness in the form of restrained energy causing blockages in the flow of our vital life force (also called "Breath of Life"), causing areas of inertia to appear. Dr. Taylor Still, the founder of osteopathy, stated that life expresses itself as motion, where motion ceases to exist pathology may arise. The emphasis in Biodynamic Cranio sacral Therapy is to help resolve the trapped forces that underlie and govern patterns of disease and fragmentation in both body and mind. This involves the practitioner "listening through the hands" to the body’s subtle rhythms and any patterns of inertia or congestion. Through the development of subtle palpatory skills the practitioner can read the story of the body, identify places where issues are held and then follow the natural priorities for healing as directed by the patient¹s own physiology. Robert Harris, coordinator of the European School of Craniosacral Therapy and organiser of professional courses explained “in my experience the client reaches deep levels of consciousness during a session, it’s as if the breath of life were powered to such a degree that the external experiential force is liberated. Heat is released, fluid moves and sometimes there are changes in the tissue at the site of inertia, causing it to disappear.”
