Waldorf-Steiner nursery school to open in Marbella
March 1st saw the launch event, held at Terra Sana’s Nueva Andalucia restaurant, for a new nursery school based on the Steiner-Waldorf system of education. The new school, with the full support of the Micael Steiner school in Madrid, will be opening its doors in a country location close to La Cañada shopping centre near Marbella. During the presentation for interested parents, Sr. Antonio Malagón, director of the Madrid school explained the key features of the Waldorf pedagogy, created by Rudolf Steiner in 1919 and successfully taught in more than 700 schools worldwide. The essence of this teaching method, with respect to Nursery years, lies in the integration of the pupil with their natural environment, fostering games, telling tales and performing handicrafts to establish a solid base for the pupil to evolve with confidence. The interaction with other pupils and the involvement of parents is key. Raquel, who had organised the presentation, explained to La Chispa that the idea was to start with the nursery and gradually add in the primary and secondary years as the school progressed. “We have a beautiful location and will be including a school farm for growing food and tending animals as part of the learning experience,” Raquel said.
