Sonrisa Studios

If you are looking for a night of jazz, tango, salsa or other musical treats, Sonrisa Studios, in the heart of Marbella, is the venue to head for. A dance school and academy during the week, at weekends it is transformed into a top class location for some of the best acts on the coast – dance, live music and theatre are all featured in the line up, and owner, Sherry Midas, who has over 25 year’s experience in organising events in London and Spain, has big plans for Sonrisa. “Now that the venue is established, I am starting to get a lot of interest from people looking for acts to perform at other venues,” Sherry explained. “We have a roster of brilliant performers of all types – dancers, musicians, singers – who want to be working in many different places on the coast. Sonrisa Studios has enabled me to gather together this excellent team, and using it as a launching pad we hope to develop all kinds of events this year.”

Sherry is already well known on the coast for her work organising some past spectaculars like the Michael Jackson tribute at the Puente Romano last year as well as musicals like Cats, Chicago and Cabaret. With strong connections to the UK theatre and music scene, her mission is to bring local and international music and theatre to the town and help develop Marbella as a cultural centre where people can enjoy great entertainment at reasonable prices. For 2011 Sherry already has a packed schedule including Salsa on the second Friday of each month, Jazz shows on the last Friday, and dance shows on the first Saturday. The venue opens for the first shows on fourth of February.

The venue also acts as a school for dance and offers tango, salsa, oriental, flamenco, ballet and Irish, taught by professionals with plenty of experience here on the coast.
