The solar de hydrator

Why a solar dehydrator?
Where we live there are many small farms with fruit trees, that while they are productive are not viable to sell the produce fresh and the trees are left without harvesting. Dehydrating the fruit allows these small farms to create a viable way of exploiting their crops. The dehydration process conserves the food while protecting them from the direct rays of the sun and keeping most of the nutrients. This was traditionally done with figs, grapes and apricots, and would be able to provide a new income for many of the people who live in the villages of the area, where there is a lot of unemplyment. It would also revitalise the countryside and the once abundant edible forests that used to grow here.

where is the project being developed?
It is found in the house of ‘Pepe Bravo’ in Alozaina where Arte en mis Manos is based, a loose collective of people who continue the work Pepe started with the solidarity school for disadvantged children.
