Devil's Claw Root (Harpagofito)
  • crazydiamond August 2011
Does anyone know of a stockist of loose herbs, preferably organic? I need 500g-1kg of Devil's Claw Root for my horses and dogs. The Herboristeria sells it in tablet form but I'm not sure where to get the loose granules in larger quantities.

Hi - the best place for that kind of thing that i know of is a small herb shop in Marbella called herboristería Sunmed Natura - it is between ricardo soriano and the beach near Salud Total. on this google map it is opposite the el faro inn: http://maps.google.es/maps?q=ricardo+soriano+marbella&hl=es&ll=36.507584,-4.88809&spn=0.007071,0.016512&sll=40.396764,-3.713379&sspn=13.712515,33.815918&z=17 - and here are some contact details - Carmen is the owner: C/ Virgen del Pilar s/n. Local, 7, 29600 Marbella; Tel: 952 777 140
    Best of luck

Hi, I buy chunks of harpagofito from a shop in Plaza de Arriola (no 10 I think) in Malaga, which I pulverize as and when I need it in a grinder.
This shop is called AlmacenDe Las Especias
You can see it on google map if you search for Herboristeria De Lina. ( It is almost opposite to this herboristeria)

    This shop sells:
a very wide range of herbs
    in large quantities
    at reasonable prices

However as far as I recall there were no organic/ecological certifications.

Hope you get what you need :)

I know that shop in Málaga, it's a great local shop, always busy, always helpful and they sell everything - good tip, thanks

Sorry its taken me so long to get back, glad you know that one Phil, thanks. I only found out about it because one day I decided to check out some of the 'alternative places' in Malaga center and it was almost opposite to an herboristeria.
I love herbs and have this hunger to find out as much as possible. I recently found out that I have an abundance of Vervain growing at my finca so have dried tonnes of that.. it is incredibly balancing..tastes nasty! :)

Crazydiamond, hope you got what you needed ...?

We publish a map of alternative Málaga every issue, unfortunately not everywhere wants to advertise but i hope it gives an idea of some of the places in the city - vegetarian restaurants, esoteric shops and so on.

We now have seeds of this plant which is from Southafrica but has grown well in Aragón so we plan to cultivate it (www.plantaromed.es).
Crazydiamond do you use it as an antiinflammatory? we have donkeys and a dog also.
They sell in in tablet form together with another two herbs at health food stores, I have used it, it's good although somewhat of a laxative!
