Hora de la Planeta

Apaga la luz, enciende el planeta

La Hora del Planeta 2010 será la mayor llamada a la acción organizada jamás. Servirá para demostrar que, actuando juntos, todos somos parte de la solución al cambio climático, a pesar del insuficiente acuerdo de Copenhague.

La Hora del Planeta de WWF pretende implicar a más de mil millones de personas y movilizar a 6.000 ciudades del mundo para demostrar el apoyo global a la acción contra el cambio climático.

El día 27 de marzo de 2010, de 20:30 a 21:30, descubre lo que millones de personas pueden hacer juntas. Un gesto, un símbolo; mil millones de gestos, una acción global por el clima.

¿Qué es la Hora del Planeta?
La Hora del Planeta es una iniciativa global de WWF donde los individuos, escuelas, organizaciones, empresas y gobiernos apagan sus luces durante una hora para votar a favor de la acción sobre el cambio climático. Al votar con sus interruptores de luz, los participantes de la Hora del Planeta envían un poderoso mensaje visual a sus dirigentes exigiendo acción inmediata sobre el cambio climático. La Hora del Planeta es el evento climático más grande en la historia. En el 2009, participaron más de 4,000 ciudades en 88 países, incluyendo 200 ciudades españolas. WWF espera a través de la Hora del Planeta generar impulso político para la adopción de un tratado mundial ambicioso, justo y vinculante sobre clima para reducir nuestras emisiones de carbono, después de los decepcionantes resultados de la Cumbre de Copenhague.

¿Qué se tiene planeado para la Hora del Planeta 2010?
El sábado, 27 de marzo 2010 a las 20:30 cientos de millones de personas en todo el mundo apagarán sus luces durante una hora, simbólicamente, llamando a la acción sobre el cambio climático. En España, WWF busca el apoyo continuo de ayuntamientos, empresas y otras instituciones, así como de los millones de españoles que votaron con su interruptor durante la Hora del Planeta 2009.

¿Qué sucedió durante la Hora del Planeta en 2009?
En España participaron unos 4 millones de personas y 200 ciudades, apagando edificios emblemáticos como la Alhambra de Granada, la Cibeles, el museo Guggenheim, la torre Agbar de Barcelona y cientos de edificios más. El mundo respondió de forma increíble, apagando el Puente Brooklyn de Nueva York, el Edificio Empire State, el Puente Golden Gate, las Grandes Pirámides de Giza, la Acrópolis y el Partenón en Atenas, la Basílica de San Pedro en el Vaticano, el Big Ben y las Casas del Parlamento en Londres, y mucho más.

Plan Solar Mediterráneo

En el marco de la Presidencia Española de la Unión Europea, Valencia acogerá la Conferencia de alto nivel sobre el Plan Solar Mediterráneo que, presidida por el Ministro español de Industria, Turismo y Comercio, reunirá a ministros y representantes de los 43 países que conforman la Unión por el Mediterráneo.

El Plan Solar Mediterráneo, nacido al amparo de “El Proceso de Barcelona: Unión por el Mediterráneo (UpM)” y lanzado en julio de 2008, es uno de sus proyectos estratégicos para el desarrollo sostenible frente al previsible incremento de la demanda energética en la región Euro-Mediterránea y a la necesidad de reducir las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero. Su objetivo principal es el desarrollo de 20 GW de capacidad eléctrica renovable en la ribera sur del Mediterráneo así como de las infraestructuras necesarias para la interconexión eléctrica con Europa. El Plan también contempla el Ahorro y la Eficiencia Energética, así como la Transferencia de Tecnología.

Un elemento clave para el desarrollo de este Plan es el establecimiento de un marco regulatorio adecuado para la promoción de la implantación de las energías renovables facilitando igualmente los intercambios. El Plan Solar Mediterráneo debe ser un gran paso adelante en el desarrollo de la política de cooperación euro-mediterránea en materia de energía iniciada con el Proceso de Barcelona en 1995, integrada desde 2007 en la Política de Vecindad de la Unión Europea y reforzada desde 2008 con la creación de la Unión por el Mediterráneo. Con motivo de esta Conferencia, organizada por el Ministerio español de Industria, Turismo y Comercio, con la colaboración de la Comisión Europea, se presenta un programa que reunirá a ministros de ambas riberas mediterráneas, autoridades de las Instituciones de la Unión Europea, destacados miembros de la industria relevante del sector energético, así como del sector financiero.

La cooperación energética en el área del Mediterráneo, la política de infraestructuras en el marco del Plan Solar Mediterráneo, las tecnologías energéticas, el marco regulatorio y la financiación de las inversiones asociadas, son las líneas maestras de un programa diseñado con el objetivo de potenciar y facilitar la puesta en marcha de este Plan y su papel dinamizador económico y social de la región Euro-Mediterránea. La Conferencia de Valencia es pues una cita imprescindible para todos los agentes, que desde sus diferentes campos, harán realidad esta gran iniciativa en el marco de la cooperación energética euro-mediterránea: autoridades públicas del sector energético, instituciones y agencias del sector, representantes de las empresas energéticas y de infraestructuras, entidades financieras, entre otros.

Fundado en el 2008 por Dominique Vissenberg y Arjen Hilhorst y con sede en Alhaurin el Grande, el Trampolín verde es, como su nombre indica, una empresa que se especializa en ayudar a crear y desarrollar negocios que sean sostenibles, ecológicos y socialmente responsables.

Con un interés personal en el estilo de vida alternativo, Dominique y Arjen pretenden ofrecer apoyo a proyectos similares y ayudarles a empezar, desarrollar planes de negocios, gestionarlos y encontrar las subvenciones. “Nos encanta hacer lo que hacemos: se ajusta a nuestra personalidad, experiencia y actitud y es estupendo que lo podamos hacer juntos. Dominique es una lince con los fondos; antes del Trampolín verde se dedicaba a gestionar proyectos y evaluar solicitudes de subvención y Arjen se dedicaba al comercio. Esa combinación es esencial para saber como manejar la burocracia de las solicitudes de fondos y para traducir los planes maravillosos que tiene la gente en algo tangible con que ganarse la vida. Hay muchos posibles donantes, desde fundaciones privadas a gobiernos locales y a la UE. Actualmente nos centramos en el 'incentivo autónomo'.

Esta subvención se ofrece para incentivar el crecimiento empresarial y forma parte del 'Programa de Incentivos para la Promoción de la Innovación y el Desarrollo Empresarial' de Andalucía. Es una subvención a fondo perdido y se ajusta a las necesidades de los objetivos del grupo. La intención es dar a la gente el valor que precisa para empezar o desarrollar más su empresa, al tiempo que limita el riesgo financiero que puede acarrear ya que no es un préstamo. Intentamos mantener los costes operativos bajos y esperamos que sea un servicio no prohibitivo para los autónomos o los que quieren empezar un nuevo proyecto. Y en cuanto tengamos tiempo también ayudaremos a las fundaciones sin ánimo de lucro en la zona de Andalucía”.

El 19 de marzo en Coín se celebra San José (Día del Padre). Aunque en estos momentos no es fiesta local, si que ese fin de semana, o el más próximo muchos vecinos del pueblo celebran una barbacoa en Río Grande, un día de campo para disfrutar de la naturaleza y de la familia unida. In 2009 hundreds of millions of people around the world showed their support by turning off their lights for one hour.

Earth Hour 2010 will continue to be a global call to action to every individual, every business and every community. A call to stand up, to show leadership and be responsible for our future.

What is Earth Hour?
Earth Hour is a global campaign to showcase what can and is being done all over the world to combat climate change. Earth Hour is a worldwide initiative showing how individuals, communities, businesses and governments can address the threat of global warming if we resolve to work on it together. Earth Hour unites communities, ushering in a new era of environmental consciousness by encouraging personal accountability and behavioural change to facilitate a low-carbon lifestyle. The highlight of the Earth Hour campaign will see the world’s most iconic landmarks go dark for one designated hour, as people across the globe of different races, religions, cultures and socio-demographic turn off their lights, united in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet.

When does Earth Hour take place?
Earth Hour 2010 will be held on Saturday March 27 between 8.30PM and 9.30PM in your local time zone.

What does Earth Hour ask people to do?
Earth Hour encourages individuals, businesses and governments to show leadership on climate change through their actions, to use Earth Hour as a platform to showcase to the world what measures they are taking to reduce their carbon footprint. Earth Hour asks everyone to take personal accountability for their climate impact and make behavioural changes to facilitate a low-carbon lifestyle. Taking the first step is as easy as turning off your lights. By switching off your lights for Earth Hour you are making a statement on the indiscriminate threat of global warming and a commitment to a low-carbon lifestyle.

How long has Earth Hour been going for?
Earth Hour began in one city in 2007 when more than two million individuals and two thousand businesses in Sydney, Australia turned off their lights for one hour on Saturday 31 March 2007. In 2008, Earth Hour reached 370 cities and towns in more than 35 countries across 18 time zones, as the campaign shifted from a one-city event to a global action. 50 million people around the world switched off their lights for Earth Hour 2008. Global landmarks including the Golden Gate Bridge, Rome’s Coliseum, Sydney Opera House, Coke billboard in Times Square and the Burj al Arab in Dubai darkened for one hour. Earth Hour 2009 created history as the greatest voluntary action ever witnessed, representing the first ever global vote. Registrations, polling and energy reduction levels indicate that hundreds of millions of people voted Earth over Global Warming with their light switch in 4159 cities, towns and municipalities across 88 countries, including 73 national capitals and 9 of the world’s 10 most populated cities. Global landmarks that switched off in support included The Sphinx and Pyramids at Giza, Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil, the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Acropolis in Athens.

Mediterranean Solar Plan

This high level conference will be hosted in Valencia, 11th-12th May, on the Mediterranean Solar Plan as part of Spain's Presidency of the European Union, presided over by the Spanish Minister of Industry, Tourism and Trade. This event will gather together ministers and representatives of the 43 countries that make up the Mediterrenean Union. The Mediterranean Solar Plan, developed under the umbrella of the “Barcelona Process: Uniting the Mediterranean (UfM)”, and launched in July 2008, is part of a long term strategy for sustainable development to face the increasing energy demands in the Euro-Mediterranean region, and the need to cut back greenhouse gas emissions. Its main objective is to develop 20GW of renewable electricity output on the South Shore of the Mediterranean, as well as the necessary infrastructures for connecting the electricity with Europe. The Plan also plans to implement Saving and Energy Efficiency, as well as Technology Transfer.

A key element for the development of this Plan is the establishment of a suitable, new regulatory framework to promote the establishment of renewable energies, and facilitating the exchange of electricity. The Mediterranean Solar Plan will be a huge step forward in the development of the Euro-Mediterranean co-operation policy in the field of energy, that began with with the Barcelona process in 1995, integrated in the European Neighbourhood Policy since 2007 and reinforced with the creation of the Mediterranean Union since 2008. A programme will be presented at the Conference to cover energy cooperation in the Mediterranean region, an infrastructure policy within the framework of the Mediterranean Solar Plan, energy technologies, the regulatory framework and associated investment. The Valencia Conference will be an opportunity for all interested parties – public authorities in the energy sector, the sector’s institutions and agencies, representatives of the energy and infrastructure firms, financial bodies, etc. - to see how the Mediterrenean plan will be implemented.

Founded in 2008 by Dominique Vissenberg and Arjen Hilhorst, and based in Alhaurin el Grande, Green Stepping Stone is, as the name implies, a company that specialises in helping to set up and develop businesses that are sustainable, ecological and socially responsible.

With an interest in alternative lifestyles themselves, Dominique and Arjen aim to provide support for like-minded enterprises and help them to get set up, develop business plans, work on project management and find funding through grants. “We love doing what we do: it fits our personality, experience and attitude and it’s great that we can do this together. Dominique is a real wizard with funds; before Green Stepping Stone she was involved in both project management and grant application evaluation and Arjen has a background in commerce. That combined background is essential in knowing how to deal with the paperwork involved in funding applications, but also in translating the wonderful plans people have into something tangible that they can earn a living from.” There are many possible donors, ranging from private foundations, to local government, to the EU. “At the moment our focus lies on the ‘autónomo incentive’.

"This grant is offered to encourage business growth and is part of the ‘Incentives Programme for the Promotion of Innovation and Business Development’ in Andalucía. It is a non repayable grant and matches the needs of our target groups. It is intended to give people the courage they need to start or further develop their company, while limiting the financial risk this can bring along because it is not a loan. We try to keep our operational costs to a minimum, and hope this will be an affordable service for self employed people or those looking to set up a new venture. And as soon as time allows us, we will also be assisting non-profit foundations in the region of Andalucía”.
