A letter from the organisers:
Dear friends and local producers of Coin,
We would like to thank everyone for their interest in the village for this project. To mark World Vegan month that takes place every November we thought we’d dedicate some space to look at what it means to be vegan, and why many people who choose to be a vegan believe it is the best and quickest way to save the planet.
While a vegetarian diet is becoming more common, even in southern Spain, veganism is still considered a much more radical lifestyle choice. Yet some of the arguments for a vegan diet are compelling, and for those of us … Continue reading
Twenty five local businesses, following the initiative of EQQUO Málaga, Spain’s new green party, have launched a manifesto for a more socially responsible and environmentally friendly economy. The manifesto was launched in November at the Fair Trade shop (tienda Comercio Justo) in the old town of Málaga city. Angel Rodriguez, one of the party’s leading candidates, presented the initiative as a call to all of Málaga – businesses, associations, parties and unions – as a way to overcome the current social-environmental crisis and drive forward … Continue reading
Last year we reported on the latest developments in infra red technology bringing clean dry heat into our houses. Redwell, one of the world’s pioneers in infra red heating systems, has had an office based down here in southern Spain for the past six years, and have recently launched new product ranges that are more efficient and more economical. Their new white frameless panels offer considerable savings so that more people can enjoy the benefits of infra red heating.
Humans have the capacity to absorb infrared … Continue reading
Readers will recall that Arboretum is a non-profit organisation, whose mission is to develop an educational tool and provide a public space for the environmental literacy of the local population with a focus on sustainability.
This issue we look at two important issues, the first being ‘action’. On November 12 the first group of stakeholders planted their trees at Arboretum, marking the opening ceremony for the 2011 planting season. These are people who support the project with a membership fee of 5€ per month and are … Continue reading
Arboretum is a nonprofit project based in Marbella whose mission is to develop environmental education and provide a public space for an understanding of sustainability in practice. La Chispa will be following its progress over the next few issues.
In the conservation garden, one of the priorities is developing a wild wood, composed of 131 species of trees, shrubs, grasses and vines native to the region, creating a living collection of plants and a gene pool representing the biodiversity of the area.
Given the special nature … Continue reading

When Sandra Glijn started her studies in Feng Shui many years ago, she quickly realized that this ancient Chinese scientific discipline, dedicated to well being, could be difficult to integrate into a modern European lifestyle. In an attempt to ‘adapt’ traditional Feng Shui to 21st century living, Sandra created the concept of ‘Cosmic Chi’, chi being the invisible energy that connects us all, instead of Feng Shui (which literally means ‘wind, water’). Keeping the basic principles of traditional Feng Shui such as the 5 elements, … Continue reading
